About Cafe 939

Berklee College of Music had a vision: to create a performance space that would showcase all the genres and talent that reside on campus, as well as featuring local, regional, national, and international acts that might be passing through our musical city.

Berklee's Cafe 939 is a state-of-the-art, all-ages, student-run music venue and coffeehouse. Located at 939 Boylston Street adjacent to the Cactus Club, Cafe 939 showcases Berklee's emerging student performers and local Boston artists, as well as national acts seeking a more intimate, personal space in which to connect with their fans. While most rooms in Boston have a specific musical niche, Cafe 939 embraces nearly any style from rock, jazz, folk, and world to bluegrass, hip-hop, electronica, avant-garde, and beyond. The venue is open to the general public and aims to attract musicians and music fans from all walks of life. Right down to the colors on the walls, it's a jewel to behold, located right in the Back Bay.

The 200-capacity concert space-featuring high-end PA and lighting systems, video and DVD capabilities, and flexible seating-is equipped for a wide variety of performances. Music business/management majors are responsible for booking, marketing, publicizing, and promoting all shows at the almost completely student-run operation. Berklee students also work as ushers, box office clerks, and stage crew.
